As a privately owned and financed luxury lodge, with profits funding our education program and community projects, and providing profit sharing for out talented staff, $150 per person, sharing seems reasonable to me.
Our 5 bungalows can be configured with a king size bed or 2 singles.
We don’t charge seasonal premiums as I believe it’s wonderful here all year round (see my weather analysis). So, basically first come, first served.
I also don’t believe in overcharging you for the bar and restaurant. Breakfast is included, as are walking (running or biking) safaris with our on staff specialist.
Airport pickup is available at $35 per vehicle (capacity 4), with large luggage capacity (golf clubs, no problem).
You’ll find that our attention to service will be well worth the price. Did I mention free laundry service? See our list of amenities.
PLEASE NOTE: I’m sorry for this, but due the slope of the site, Sakila Sunrise may not be the best lodge for you if you have problems with mobility or need to use a wheelchair.

For those of you who need more assistance, we are here to help answer your questions. Sakila Sunrise is not a safari or climbing company but we work closely with safari companies that offer safaris to Lake Manyara, the Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater, etc. (generally referred to as the Northern circuit) and Mount Kilimanjaro and Mount Meru climbs.
We are happy to connect you with companies we trust, that are experts in this area, including Zanzibar.
The Director’s Studio…
Whether you’re traveling alone and want a quiet place to finish your novel or music score while enjoying the view from the cantilevered deck, or with your family and want the benefit of the small kitchen, this studio is perfect for you.
Please contact me for rates for a long term stay.
The studio includes 2 double beds and 1 single. The second double bed is located on the mezzanine, accessible by ladder, so probably best for children over 6.
The intimacy and size (bed capacity 15) of Sakila Sunrise make it perfect for private groups. Think wedding party, your club (photography, birding, climbing, etc.), your women’s group, multi generational family (there is something for everyone, regardless of age), or just get your favorite friends together for a fantastic time.
Our very open, liberal philosophy welcomes everyone!
Call for rates if you want to rent the entire lodge.
Credit cards versus cash…
Merchants are charged a 5% fee on credit cards, so most don’t accept as the fee is too burdensome, or charge you the 5%. ATM machines are easy to access, so most visitors take advantage of that for accessing Tanzanian shillings. The current exchange rate is around 2200 per dollar, so be prepared for a big stack! Usually the limit per withdrawal is $200, but you can withdraw 3 times per day (consecutively).
Most of you have probably prepaid for your safari and accommodations, so the cash you need for shopping, etc. can be accessed at the ATM machine. At Sakila Sunrise we have credit card capability and won’t pass on the 5% fee to you.
Despite being married twice, I traveled alone frequently and loved it. For those of you traveling alone, I will do everything possible to not charge you a “penalty”.Our profits are returned to the local community , so I only ask you to be honest about what works for you, so contact me and we will find a solution.
